This trip has been rated as Moderate

This trip is designed for anyone with a sense of adventure and an interest for combining activities in the outdoors with some cultural exploration as well as some authentic local food experiences along the way. You'll be active for three to five hours each day so expect to work up your appetite!

Hiking will follow a mix of paved tracks to country trails and dirt roads, and although you'll be hiking up and down some gentle hills, the going is leisurely with plenty of stops to enjoy the views. Overall, you should be comfortable hiking up to 3-4 hours, sometimes in hot weather. Please expect quite a lot of steps, sometimes uneven, when exploring the villages.

The trip includes one scenic ride on e-bikes – bicycles with battery-powered assistance that comes via pedalling. The routes will include some steep uphill sections and as well as some quiet road sections through the lush Vezere Valley. You must feel comfortable on two wheels and cycling for approx. 3-4 hours total excluding breaks. Your e-bike will give you an extra push so you should find the hills and overall distance easier than expected!

There will be also a short canoeing trip from Cenac to Vezac, where you'll be paddling downstream along a picturesque 10-kilometer stretch of the Dordogne River. The going will be leisurely but you must be comfortable in the water and able to swim.

If you don't exercise regularly, please consider factoring in some light to moderate physical activity in the weeks leading up to the trip to ensure you're ready to enjoy the experience.

What if i need to skip an activity?

If you prefer to opt-out from any of the activities, just let your guide know. You can enjoy some extra leisure time in the towns or back at the accommodation.

What will I need to carry?

You will have access to your larger bag with all your belongings each day, which will stay at the hotel in Sarlat. You'll also need a small 25-30L rucksack to carry personal items during each day of activities.

There are four distinctive seasons in the Dordogne Valley : Summers are generally hot, winter temperatures can come drastically down below freezing and the seasons in between offer a whole spectrum of weather patterns. In spring, you might run into a few rainy days but generally the temperatures are in the mid-twenties in late spring (May- early June). Summers can be hot in the Dordogne Valley and the temperature sometimes go above 30 degrees Celsius in July and August, so if you decide to travel at this time of year, be prepared for some warm and humid days. In September and October, temperatures tend to return to the mid twenties. Some rain and chilly evenings or days are possible at any time of year, so the best you can do is to come prepared for varied weather conditions and bring some layers and rainproof gear.
