Touch down in Split Airport, then make your way to the city centre (see 'Getting There' for information on the shuttle service). Meet your host and group at noon for a warm welcome, then a transfer two hours south to Lovište. Nestled amid lush greenery with panoramic views of the sea and nearby islands, this captivating village is where your multi-day kayaking adventure begins. This afternoon, join your group and guide at the waterfront for an introductory safety briefing and gear fitting, then head out on a short paddle to the stunning sandy beach of Krizica. Get acquainted with some fundamental paddling techniques amidst this serene coastal beauty, enjoy a sunset swim, then head back to your camping spot for dinner and some rest before more kayaking tomorrow.

Rise early and get ready to paddle to captivating Korčula Island, nestled in the heart of the central Dalmatian archipelago, boasting of a wealth of history and charm. Make a first stop at the pebble beach of Duba, a breathtaking spot perfect for snorkelling or a swim in crystal-clear turquoise waters. Treat yourself to an iced coffee at a secluded restaurant conveniently located near the beach, then continue on, stopping for another break near the St. John Cape where you can take a short hike to a hilltop church offering panoramic views above the entire channel. Paddle past notable landmarks like Sirna Stijena (also known as the Cheese Rock!) and Kneza, a charming village with a fascinating history and numerous delightful beaches. Finally, reach your campsite where some deserved relaxation, sundowners and dinner await!

Prepare for an exhilarating day of exploration as you set out towards the vibrant village of Lumbarda, visiting two Dalmatian highlights along the route. First, stop at Korčula Town, a real joy to wander around with its ancient walls, red-roofed houses, a skyline dominated by the magnificent St. Mark's Cathedral (the alleged birthplace of Marco Pol) and the iconic Revelin Tower. Back in the water, continue towards Otok Vrnik, a small island famed for its tranquillity, where you can visit some ancient stone quarries – the remnants of a stone-cutting heritage dating from Roman times. End the day in the charming village of Lumbarda, renowned for its great wine production. Enjoy a free evening to walk around the village, eat at a restaurant of your choice and perhaps explore some of the local wineries to sample the excellent white Grk, produced exclusively on this island.

Kayak to Pelješac peninsula

This morning you'll leave charming Lumbarda with its sandy beaches and laid-back atmosphere, kayaking towards the southern side of the Pelješac Peninsula. Paddle to Badija Island, part of the stunning Korčula archipelago, where you stop for some exploration on foot, including a visit to an ancient monastery dating back to the 14th century. This island is famous for its wild deer so it's likely you'll bump into some as you are out exploring. Next, navigate through numerous small reefs and islands en route to the Pelješac Peninsula. As you sail past the island of Sestrice, a lighthouse constructed in 1899 will come into view, marking your farewell to Korcula Island. As you approach Pelješac, the horizon will gradually reveal its terraced vineyards that conceal your final campsite for the night.

On your final day, paddle along the scenic Southern coast of the Pelješac Peninsula, enjoying the mesmerizing views of the Dingač region's slopes, one of Croatia’s most popular wine-growing areas. Think towering cliffs, azure waters, and hidden coves dotting the coastline, with idyllic bays perfect for peaceful breaks and snorkelling adventures. The tour ends after lunch and your host will then transfer you back to Split, where you can choose to extend your Croatian adventure or depart on a late evening flight.

Transfers

The meeting point for your trip is at your host's office in Split, where your transfer to Lovište departs from. Airport transfers to and from Split city centre are not included in this trip, but it's easy to pre-book an airport shuttle. The cost is approximately €8 one way which is payable on the website, and the journey time is around 30 minutes. A general taxi fare will cost around €30-45. We strongly recommend booking a flight that lands before 11:00 to give yourself ample time to meet your group on time; alternatively, you can consider flying in a day earlier.

On Day 5, you'll be dropped off in Split city centre around 17:00. You can then travel on to the airport independently by shuttle bus, with frequent services throughout the day. We recommend booking a flight departing no earlier than 20:00, or you can extend your stay with an extra night in Split, grabbing a flight the following day instead.

If you would like to arrive early, depart later, or if your flight times don't line up with the trip's schedule, you can consider extending your stay in the beautiful town of Split, where your adventure starts and ends.

Travel options

There are regular direct flights to Split from airports across the UK and Europe. You can also choose to land and depart from Dubrovnik Airport which is closer to the start and end point of your kayaking tour (Lovište and Trstenik); however, you would need to plan your transfers independently and hire a car or private vehicle, due to the lack of direct public transport services. If you choose to arrive into Dubrovinik, the meeting point on Day 1 will be at Caffe Bar Felix in Trstnik at 15:00.

What is the food like?

The islands along the Dalmatian Coast have an abundance of fresh produce including seafood, fish, vegetables and fruit, so prepare to indulge in some tasty dishes throughout the trip. Breakfasts are typically light and will include a mix of fresh fruit, bread, jams and spreads, milk, coffee, tea, etc. Lunches will mostly be picnic-style utilising local products, whilst dinners are usually prepared by your guides at the campsites, and include a variety of dishes such as pasta, rice, vegetables, salads, bread and sausages. On Day 3 your evening meal is not included, so you can opt to dine in one of the many excellent traditional tavernas Lumbarda offers and perhaps even join an optional wine tasting to sample the traditional local wines.

Vegetarians, vegans and other dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for – please just request this on your passenger info form.

Island Campsites

You'll spend four nights in four different seaside campsites, sleeping in twin-share tents. You'll normally participate in setting up camp on arrival and sometimes help with packing down the camp before you set off in the morning. There will be some facilities at the sites such as tables, benches, washing facilities and toilets, electric plugs to recharge your phone and camera and sometimes even a beach bar. Your host will provide a tent, a sleeping mat, a sleeping bag, as well as all communal cooking equipment.

You'll be paddling for around four hours (approximately 13-15 km) each day along the stunning coastline and from island to island. There will be plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkelling or exploration on foot along the way. This trip is totally suitable for beginner or intermediate-level sea kayakers; however, a generally good level of fitness and stamina will help you enjoy your time on the water to the full. You must also be able to swim and should ideally feel comfortable on the open sea (although the option to return to shore is always available).

What will I need to carry?

Anything you don't need on the kayaking journey can be left at your host's office in Split and will be kept safe until the end of your trip. Kayaks will be filled with your personal stuff, camping gear and food/water so we recommend packing light and bringing only essential items. You'll be provided with dry bags to pack your clothes but you are welcome to bring some more to pack the smaller items like phones, cameras etc.

The climate in the islands of the Dalmatian Coast is mild for most of the year. It can get hot during the summer months of July to September with temperatures above 30°C, but you'll have plenty of opportunities to cool down in the sea thanks to the several swimming and snorkelling stops planned along the route.

During the months of May, June, September and October temperatures are generally milder (ranging between 17°C and 25°C). Rain is possible at any time of year, so do come prepared for this possibility. The average water temperature is about 18-24°C in May, June, September and October, with the latter part of the season a more favourable time of year if you are into snorkelling and swimming.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 36kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. The weather on the Dalmatian Coast and its islands is usually pretty mild throughout the year, although adverse wind, sea or rainy conditions can be unpredictable with some disruptions possible at any time of the year. The best you can do is to be prepared for anything and come equipped with layers of clothing, sunscreen and waterproofs. Your host will be monitoring the forecasts during the course of the trip and will suggest alternative, safer kayaking routes in the event that sea conditions are not favourable.

Tandem sea kayaks are used on this trip. They have a covered deck and are generally longer, faster and sit lower in the water than touring or sit-on-top kayaks. There's a spray sheet which you'll lock in yourself (full guidance will be provided by your expert kayak guides). You'll also learn how to steer using foot pedals to control the rudder. As these are double kayaks, you will be paddling in pairs.

The kayaks are usually German high-quality Prijon, which can easily be adjusted for each person individually thanks to their comfortable touring seat system, lightweight 3D-thigh braces and slide footrest. High storage capacity enables you to take a lot of luggage and gear with you on your multi-day expedition. HTP material is perfect for this area as it can tolerate some contact with sharp rocky coast, which makes your kayaking more trouble-free. Their fast and safe shape is designed for the typical wind and wave situation on the Adriatic Sea, especially choppy waves during summer.

If you are an experienced paddler with specific preferences, you can request a single kayak for a supplementary charge.

Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion, but there is an expectation to tip for good service. We suggest the below as a guideline per person:

Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.

The tap water on the islands is safe to drink. Please bring along your own reusable water bottles to fill up at the public fountains and at restaurants to avoid buying single use plastic bottles.

This trip visits locations where daytime temperatures can be extremely high during the times of year when this trip operates. High humidity and limited access to shade can also be factors, and warm temperatures can continue into the nighttime, which additionally influence the body’s ability to cool down. Personal care should be taken to keep cool as best possible in the conditions, such as wearing appropriate clothing and proper hydration. Very high temperatures can impair an individual’s physical abilities to perform an activity that they may otherwise be able to do competently at cooler temperatures. People may experience symptoms associated with dehydration and Heat Stroke. Your guide(s) are trained to mitigate the risks associated with high temperatures, by carefully managing the intensity of the activity, and to provide the appropriate support response should someone feel ill during the trip. Should you experience health issues during your trip you should inform your guide immediately so the proper care can be provided.
